Basically just as the title states. I've done this for years but...for the first time someone approached me to attach his subs to a stock head unit.

Anyways, 1997 ford explorer xlt

I know I will need a line out converter to attach to his speaker wires, but how do I get the amplifier to turn on? I'm not sure whether or not the stock head unit has a remote wire or not

if it doesn't what would I do?

im guessing make a custom switch and attach it to some small power source or the plus behind the head unit

I used the accessory wire in my car since the remote out on my stock HU fried.....You can usually find a wire in the engine bay/fuse box that supplys 12v current when the key is on.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Better yet, run that 12v signal through an LOC with a boosted remote out , so you don't end up frying what that original wire is hooked to with too much current;)

you should be able to connect the rca cables to the converter...my brother wants to do that to his car(i think its a bad idea) but w/e he wants.. its his car.......
