Subs vs. Coaxials

Will the 70 RMS of my two Coaxials be able to compete with the 850 RMS of my two subs? This question totally spurs from pre-installation paranoia of my first system but I get the feeling that I'll have to turn my subs real low to keep up with my fronts strictly because they aren't powerful enough to meet the level of my subs..

try it out and see for yourself

I had the "wtf" look on my face when I saw this thread title. lol. Like d@mn you can't be serious. Then I read it. If properly installed 70rms should be enough. I only have 60rms going to my comps and every sub setup i have had they've been able to keep up. But that is strictly highs a mids, not mid bass. I usually setup my front stage to have little to no midbass when I have a sub running, It allows me to tweak the loudness a bit more if I need to. Thats just a personal choice.

You could get a line driver or a different HU with higher Preouts. Also I have about 800-900 rms going to one 15 and my coaxs currently running of the HU, I can hear them just fine, in fact I have to turn them down sometimes.

Edit: That HU have 4v preouts and should be plenty loud, amp/ speaker combo on that?

What does pre-out voltage have to do with this? And im thinking you have to turn them down due to distortion.......................

i think he was assuming that OP had his gains all the way up, and was still finding himself turning the volume to the max. therefore preouts too low..

so check your gains

You will be fine. My first setup was a 50 rms x4 with gain to spare. Seems like I was running 4's in the dash tweets and 6.5's in the doors. Subs were 2 12's at 800 watts. The gain was actually maxed to the subs. .25 ohm, those were the days never heard of clipping with an hcca. Today 500 rms into 2-10's is more my comfort level. The rest get about 35-40 rms. My highs are usually at or above 100 for s/n ratio. Subs that I favor are in the low 90s. So the actual output of my setups are mild due to hearing loss in my younger days.

it's hard to explain without letting people hear. its just not too loud. it's not like i have crazy loud standards, their just not very loud and with my new sub on the way, i've gotta make sure they compete to the 500-1000rms my trunk is about to be putting out. my MB doesn't have a gain knob on it so i'm handling it on my HU. about to go out to the car and look into it now.
