subs that will play nice on 120-150 watts per.

i'm getting my old beater back and wanna throw a nice sounding small system in it.

I've come down to this so far for the setup

Alpine 9855 (coming soon from troll face)

Sony XM-5540 , running active , 2 channels for silver flute 5.5" mids from madisound , vifa 1" silk domes from madisound.

And i'm gonna use my other XM-5540 bridged on 2 subs , the only thing is it isn't super powerful , so i need really efficient subs.

Got any ideas?? 10's or 12's preferred. Final Load needs to be 4-8 ohms per sub. the amp doesnt make much more power either way because of the design , kinda like the JL amps do.

I've owned a pair of these amps, they have very stout power supplies and make more power than you would ever expect. Easily over 300 x 2 @ 4ohms, clean and dynamic. One 5540 had no problem driving a pair of 10" TC2 subs to Xmax in a medium sized sealed alignment. Grab a pair of EPICs when they come back in stock, it would be a great match. Plus, you can always move into a larger amplifier if you grow out of the 5540's, the EPICs can take an impressive amount of power.

Seriously? wow!!! i have yet to hear them properly hooked up , only on seleniums with 8 gauge power cable , they made the 8 gauge get seriously hot! i've only tested them , have yet to use them in the ride.

Although, I just noticed that you have the 5540F and I had the 5540. Basically yours has HP/LP filters and mine was just a gain block. I'm not sure which version came out first but they do have different power supplies. I stand by my advice though.
This is mine.

yeah , they both are similar but still different , the board in the 5540 mounts upside down and definetly has a different power supply from the 5540f. I'm not sure which produces more power or if there is a difference , i just picked the 5540F for the mids and highs because the gains are more accessible. I'm gonna be running active which will require a little hard core tuning at first so i want them easily reached.
