subs randomly making a high pitched sound...

my buddy just got two 12" kicker CVTs and a kicker kx600 the other day. I intalled it for him. When we were just about done we started hooking the amp up. Hooked up all the wires to the amp except for the speaker wires. Turned the radio on and then we hooked up the speaker wires. As soon as we got both the postive and negative speaker wires plugged in we both heard a pretty loud whistle sound coming through the speakers. I first thought it was a ground loop from the rcas and the sound was coming through the door speakers. But we unhooked both RCAs from the amp and the whistle continued. Unpluged the negative speaker wire and the whistle stopped.

I then plugged the speaker wire back up and put my head down by the subs and noticed the whistle was coming from the subs. The subs were not producing any bass when the constant whistling occured. All of a sudden though the whistle went away and the bass started.

It is still randomly doing it and seems to mostly happen when he first turns the radio on...but it doesn't always do it.

Anyone have any ideas?

Why did you hookup the speaker wires with your amp turned on?

You should have hooked up the speaker wires and then powered up your amp.

In fact all of your wiring should be done before you put you battery fuse back in.

I think that the problem can be traced back to your amplifier. Try replacing it (remove power first).

I'm with everyone, just try a new amp.

Don't you installing shit for friends and everything not working right away? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif

I'm not actually the one that turned the amp on. I wasn't aware it was on actually. One of my buddies turned it on for some reason.
