Subs not hitting nearly as hard. Possible damage?

Hey guys, I'm having problems with my subs. Last night it was raining pretty hard and I felt like sliding around the parking lots and shit. (I have done this many of times with the subs in the back and nothing happened) Well yesterday I whipped it pretty good and when I was leaving and applied my brakes the subs stopped hitting as hard. It felt like the sub was on volume 30 but it was on 40. The music is fine but the subs just don't hit as hard as they did. There is no damage to the subs, box or amp so I am assuming it is a wire/chord that got f'd up when I was sliding. I took the wires out of the box and there are some parts of wire still in the connection slot in the back. Whenever I put the wire back in it gets all messed up so I am thinking that I could just vacumm the excess out and re-splice them and my subs will be all better? Sorry for the HUGE post, I just need help and you guys know it better then most.

if it's nothing you checked it could be the HU who knows. ive seen it with a jensen HU the system use to be loud, but just didnt seem to be as loud as it once was. checked over gains too?

how long are you power and ground wires? RCA's? is there enough length to allow the box to slide around everywhere?

If not, i would check your wires, firstly the ground, seeing as its probably the shortest
