subs mounted backwards?

Ive seen it in some pictures- but never understood it...

ive seen subs mounted backwards, with the sub facing the inside of the box....it looks cool...but does it sound good?

I think it sounds the same. But I think Ranger said, that when inverted, it will be louder...but dont quote me on that.

Remeber to reverse the polarity, though.

The only thing I can think of that is good about it is that you get a little more box space from the subs basket not taking it up. But thats all i can think of.

SOund is caused by the rapid movement of air by the speaker cone. The back of the speaker cone moves air just like the front of the cone does. So sound can also come from the back of the speaker. But the back of the cone will have less surface area than the front of the cone, because the back of the cone doesn't have the added surface area of the dust cap (the center part of the cone) on the front.

You can mount speakers backwards, but mounting them the normal way usually sounds a little better. Plus, with the speaker mounted backwards it's harder to make the enclosure air tight around where the speaker mounts.

From reading, you must wire the sub backwards, and have some sort of gasket on the front (most subs do).

Will cost you a little SPL and not sure on SQ.
