Subs go out after few minutes + Higher volume causes less bass

I have 2 15" Kicker CVXs hooked up to a Boss 4500w onyx (yes i know boss *****). About 2 years ago, I gave up on my system. Now today, I have decided to put my subs back in my car and figure out what is wrong.

There are two issues and they may or may not go hand in hand. First, the bass will increase with volume (like it should) but once I get past a certain point (about halfway to max volume), any more increases in the volume will actually make my bass softer. So hypothetically speaking, if I turn my volume all the way up, the bass will be not as loud as if my volume was halfway up. My maximum bass comes with the volume about half way up. This is my first issue.

I feel like this second issue is somewhat related to the first. After a while of bass, even if it isn't THAT loud, power to my subs get cut off. Before I had my 2 CVXs, i had 2 CVRs. Ironically, my CVRs didn't have any problems. The bass would get reasonably loud with no problems. These CVXs however can't even get to half the loudness as the CVRs with this issue that I have. It has not always been like this. When I first got my CVXs, the bass was clear and loud. I do not recall when or what caused these two problems to start happening.

Let me tell you a little about my system. 2 Kicker CVX 4ohm DVC wired to a Boss 4500 onyx amp @ 1 ohm in a 1997 Lexus ES300. I've always thought maybe my alternator might be playing a role in this misfortune but I am not very educated about this kind of stuff. I thought maybe the amp was the problem but I traded in my amp and got it replaced with the exact same amp and the same thing happens. I do have an SSL 4000w amp that a buddy gave me and I will try to replace the Boss amp with the SSL one tomorrow.

I appreciate all input you may have. I have had this issue for about two years and it is extremely frustrating.

Thanks in advance

Edit: I am aware that these amps are not very good. I started getting into this kind of stuff in high school so getting top of the line amps was not a priority of mine. Once I figure out the issue, I plan on upgrading.

when the volume stops getting louder that means you're clipping it pretty bad so you need to back off quite a bit. i wouldnt be surprised if this is causing issues with the output dropping because you will pull a lot more current when clipping and your car might not be able to keep up
