Subs and tweeters for components?

I was thinking of just doing something a little different. I have plenty of mids and highs now but I thought about getting 2 6.5 inch subs and two decent tweeters and putting them on a x-over network and seeing how they would sound as a component setup. Has anyone tried this or seen/heard anyone doing this? If you have what do you think? or any opinions here are much appreciated

IMO the midrange frequencies are the most critical. A 'true' subwoofer along w/ your typical tweeter would leave quite a hole in the all important midrange region.

If it were to be a sub/midbass driver (giving better extension up high) & some horns (giving better extension down low), I think it could be done w/ good results.

you would have good midbass but would lack quality in the midrange.
