Sub upgrade worth while?

I have a JL 10w1v2 in a Jl stealth box in my center console. Assuming I have the extra 1/4" for depth would it be worth while to upgrade to a Sundown SD2 10" I would get the dual 2 ohm and wire it in parallel to give a 1 ohm load to my amp which would give me 600 watts

Right now I am at 275w at 4 Ohms

Would it be a noticeable difference?

a doubling of power will only net 3db...a slight noticeable difference, but not anything major.

The Sundown E series is one of only a handful of drivers that do not show the Sensitivity of each driver in that series, By this alone , I would recommend shopping for another driver, Unless you can contact them and get 100% verification of the DB sens @ 1watt/1 meter on that driver. This is very important in your situation.

For the JL 10w1v, 2JL states a db sens of 84.5 @ 1watt/1meter, but they do not give the airspace for your box. IF the Stealthbox meets the airpace requirement of .5 cubic feet sealed and the mounting requirements of the E10, then it would only come down to comparing the sensitivity of the drivers.

If you can find a suitable driver with 88db sens @ 1w/1m, then you will net another 3.5 db gain...this, combined with the possible 3db gain from the doubling of power would be a very noticeable difference in audible volume...hope this helps

the E series is deeper than the sd2 I am not sure I have the room for anything deeper the jl is 4 7/16 deep. The SD is 4 3/4" deep the sundown also requires a little less air space than the JL

also the sd2 is 83.9db 1w 1m

I also dont have to get a sundown I just am limited on depth and this seems to be the most capable sub I have found for the depth.

If space was not an issue I would get some fi q's

Good luck...I cannot find anything that is going to audibly justify any expense...I know JL came out with a new shallow mount this year, but I bet it is very expensive..it is hard to find a sub that fits what you need, D2, or maybe D4 with good sensitivity..or a 4ohm that has 90+ db sens. for any real gain in output...they took the sub and built the box around it....heck, just go redneck like we did back when and install a color matched sleeper on the bed and chunk the back glass...you can go 2 15's in there easy..lol

I bet thats a good sub I used to love Mb quart before they were bought/sold out.

I guess at that price though i am better getting a box under the rear seat with two 10" sd2 and a 1000w -1500w amp that will for sure make a noticeable difference.

I probably really should just stop it sounds great the way it is but there is always the temptation to go further

JL's TW5 only comes in a 12 or 13 but that would be a great shallow mount sub to use also u can look into the soundstream shallows we did 2 10's on a mini ss 600 and they sounded real good and got pretty low

i did too, I guess Maxxsonics bought the trademarks. I was happy to learn that a lot of the engineers stayed out of the deal and continued running the German factory making that good stuff under a different name.

lol..yes, two tens on 1500 would make a difference, no doubt.
