you cant go wrong with a 12, it will still give you deep bass, and good response. its up to you whether or not you want 1 or 2, but with two you will need more power and space. there are many varibles at which makes one woofer better then the other.

Woofer size has little to do with what point youre trying to make.. The larger the driver, the louder. Plain and simple, assuming each different size driver is of the same model.

The enlosure is what youd want to consider, i.e., ported, sealed, bandpass, isobaric, infinite baffle, etc, etc..

I listen to a lot of different types of music, including death metal and grindcore, and i have a 15" in a ported enclosure with 1500 watts running it. Sounds fine to me.

Sealed is great, however, for metal.

Alright, so between two subs, same brand same wattage same model, one is a 10", and the other is a 12", the 12" will be louder? And will both have the same clarity between notes?

Is the loudness, and deepness based on the area of the cone? Or what ever is driving the cone?

Loudness and deepness is based on what type of enclosure it is in, the volume of the enclosure, what it is tuned to if it is ported or bandpass alignment.

The more power youre send it, the louder as well, but this generally needs to be a substantial amount of extra watts to make a noticable difference.

Cone area and size of cone dictates the Spl/sensitivity parameter. The larger the cone, the louder.

Alright, I stumbles into some new questions.

When it is a dual 4ohm does that mean they run 8ohm independently? What would I be looking for if I wanted to run a single sub @ 1 or 2 ohms.

In theory the 12 should be louder, but size has no effect on sq. The reason the 12 should be louder is more cone area meaning more air displaced, however a better designed enclosure could make a 10 louder then a 12.
