Compressing files, ( well, audio and video files ) is a give/take.

You may sacrifice audio in your video file to reduce the file size,

Or you may sacrifice the quality of the audio & / or video to reduce filesize;

Likely the large MPGs of short videos are inappropriately compressed. (ie, silent video with 128kHz audio stream //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

just to let you know, all vids are compressed to the wmv format to save precious bandwidth. WMV generally yields a smaller file size over most compressions. also since the majority of viewers, 97% are pc users with 80% of them running XP, they already have WMP preinstalled. lastly, by using the WMV format for the vids, the majority of the viewers will not have to download any codecs or media players (divx, xvid, quicktime, and etc.).

for the 3% of mac users who view the site, sorry about the format.
