im about to install some subs into my car and i was wondering if a grill was necessary. i will be putting things in my trunk and i don't want the subs damaged. and if so, what grill do yall recommend or have for sale. and its 2 12" CVRs if yall have any grills for sale.

Most subs are pretty durable and i wouldnt worry about it. As long as nothing thats going to stab a hole in them is gonna get put in there.

Most of the grills out today wouldnt protect against that anyway.......

If youre really that worried about them then go and get some grills, they arent too expensive.

I think its necessary to have some sort of grill. I got a 1cm checker grill on my two 12" and glad I had them especially when I had my duffel bag and baseball bat in the trunk didnt think they would move much and it dented one of the grills. cant imagine what wo uld of happened with out one. But i guess it depends on what you have in the trunk.

Id get more advice from more experts on here tho

it's just for aesthetics mainly, unless your subs are vulnerable to getting kicked or damaged. i personally like all the artsy crap, so i personally would do one for appearance, although i don't really need them.

The necessity of them will be directly related to how likely it is that whatever cargo you might carry could come into contact with the subs.

I've had my Diamond M6 in the trunk for a great long while (2 years+) now with no issues from not being protected by a grill but I rarely put anything in the trunk outside of the odd occasional groceries that won't go in the backseat.

As far as grills Kicker makes grills that are intended to go with their round subs as well as grills made to fit the L5s and L7s (and maybe the Solo-X as well? Don't know for sure.)

Said Kicker grills can usually be sourced fairly inexpensively on eBay...

You answered your own question there. In this case, the old saying applies, better safe than sorry. Do you care what it looks like? Parts express has some regular black metal mesh grills for cheap. They have cool looking ones too. Just search eBay and car audio sites and find one that you like that will protect your subs. Because if you don't get a grill and one gets damaged you're going to be kicking yourself later.
