Sub Direction?

I just built a box for my 02 Mustang GT and the vibrations are there but the sound isnt. I am thinking the subs may sound better facing towards the trunk? I have never done a box for a coupe, only hatchbacks, so sound direction has never been a problem. Will the bass sound better if I face it backwards, or is there a bandpass type box or better I am missing?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Edited to add: Alright, I tried the wiring suggestions, and it made no difference. But, what I did figure out is that the bass DOUBLED when I opened the trunk. Thus, I assume the problem is the bass cancellation I read about in another thread.

So, do I turn the box around, or do I do I remove the Mach 460 rack from under the rear deck leaving only a rear deck frame, add baffles and trim pieces for the 5X7's and fire the woofers straight up into the back window. Either would be relatively easy, but the straight up version would allow me to use my current flush mount set-up in the trunk. I can just remove the front piece of the box and replace with a solid piece and then cut new holes in the top of the box.

What do you guys think?

Edit #2 i turned the box around to face the back of the trunk and it SLAMS. Love it. Need to build a new box now though so it looks better. This will do for a few weeks. Thanks for all your help!

Heres the current set-up.

Yes I know the subs are underpowered. LOL

three 10s should be plenty loud if you got 400 watts or more?
you sure theyre wired correctly?

in phase?

The bass sound is there, but not like it has been in the past when fired off a hatchback window or the like. It's like I can feel the bass, but not hear it like I have in previous installs.

The voice coils are wired in series and paralleled at the amp. Each sub has it's own sealed enclosure.

disconnect 2 subs

play 1 sub with music,

connect sub number 2 more bass yes or no. ?

if yes connect sub number 3 ..more bass yes or no?

if there is less bass when you connect subs 2 or 3 your wireing is wrong.

this is the same thing i am fearing with a front facing setup. that box looks sealed correct? hope i do not run into the same problems with a ported enclosure

sorry i cant help but ive read a lot where people say that this setup may or may not work.

also, that looks like a sealed box. with that said, in a sealed box output will improve with the subs facing backwards.

I love it ported, but this is coming from a guy who loves loud setups.

That, and the setup you see in my avatar is in the bed of a truck firing into a cabin. I cant fire the subs any other way //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

true, im just hoping that my new setup fo front firing will be louder or at least the same as my old setup of rear firing in the same box same subs same everything.

Thanks fellas! I'll check the wiring later this evening! If that doesnt work, I'll try to turn the box around.

If I was to rebuild the box, is there a better design? I should checked here before I built I guess.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

i moved my box from rear firing to front in my current car not the car im building a baffle for and with my 3.5 cube box at 32 hertz it seemed much louder to me. i dont have a meter so i cant say the gain but by ear it seamed to get louder with less power. the lows did not seem as loud though, i dont know the frequency of the song but the low bass you can barely hear just feel.

The more I read online, I'm thinking it may be a wiring problem. If that doesnt work, I'm gonna flip the box around and try it facing towards the trunk.

Another thought I had was possibly replacing the front piece of the box and making trim plates for the 5X7's in the rear deck (w/baffles) and recutting the sub mount holes in the top of the box. That way there would be nothing blocking the woofers and they would be firing off the back glass. Any comments on that?
