Sub Direction/Orientation

I'm going to be building a fiberglass enclosure in the back of my supra... does the direction of the sub make any difference for quality/volume? I was thinking about having it pointed towards the glass or more the back, strictly for looks but I don't want to sacrafice any quality/volume.

Also, does the sub being inverted make a difference in sound? Assuming the enclosure size is to spec?

most ppl in hatches point the sub towards the glass. From what ive read positioning it that way reflects the waves towards the front.

Yea the front and back waves sortof sync up. The way they travel they kindof come together better. Its like shooting something with twice the gunpower at the same time. Idk if you look around on the major websites theres a sticky on positioning em where this guy used a bunch of equipment and graphs and i had to read it like 3 times just to understand it.

Yeah, having them face the glass is the best idea. Just make sure they don't get jacked!

And for inverted subs, you just need to switch polarity. It shouldn't make a difference as long as the enclosure is to spec, assuming the moving parts aren't mechanically noisy.

Ummm sorry to inform you nut their is no reason to change the polarity on an inverted sub. the only reason to do it is if you have one sub inverted and one not. this way they would still be in phase. but if they are all inverted then it would not matter which way you wire them as long as they are all the same.

there's no need to argue about polarity, the chances I'll invert it are very slim.

Whether it's inverted or not, you should try wiring both in phase and out of phase to see which sounds better.

are you saying try wiring it out of phase with the mids/highs? cause thats bout the only time it would make a difference. other than that either way you wire a sub its performance will be the same.

I think thats sortof a preference. You'd have to talk to somebody who owned an early 90s supra like yours that has tried both.

i had my subs inverted for a long time and never reversed polarity.....NO NEED TO REVERSE IT IF BOTH ARE INVERTED
