Sub box ideas for my 79 malibu ( g-body)

Anybody here running G-body cars?, 78-87 Montes, Regals, Cutlass, Grand Prix, Malibu.

I'm running a 79 Malibu Classic and I need ideas to build a sub box that'll fit under the rear deck where my 6x9's mount (rear axle hump) and face the rear bumper, if you have any pics post'em if ya would.

consider just removing the rear 6x9's so the subs can play through the rear deck.

I'm not apposed to moving the 6x9's for the room needed, shouldn't the subs fire into the trunk toward the bumper? I want to be able to use the trunk a little so I can't just shove a big sub box in the middle of it, I'll lose all my usable space.

I don't know anything about posting pics and my car isn't really worth taking pics of yet, it's a solid car I bought in Arizona 7 years ago that needs paint and interior work do to the sun out there (work in progress). Car has the following: 355 SBC, B&M shift kit, Hooker coated headers, Torque Tech 3" exhaust, Autometer gauges, and no system yet.

You've been advised to remove the 6x9's so the sound from the subs will have an easier time entering the passenger compartment. This is important even if your subs are facing rearward.

Rear facing sub systems usually work best when mounted fairly close to the rear wall, which helps front-load the speaker (among other things). Unfortunately that means exactly what you want to avoid, the box sitting right in the middle of your trunk. If you want the box small and mounted under the rear parcel shelf, consider an up-firing or front-firing setup.

I guess I'm going to have to build a shallow rectangular box that'll fit on the rear parcel shelf with the subs firing up through the rear deck which should sound good. Thanks for the ideas guys.

The idea of the subs mounted through the rear deck sounds good to, I could make the rear sub box panel out of clear plexiglass and then I could line the other panel insides with some mirror plexi and then throw a few leds in there to light the box up.
