Are you talkin about Portland, Maine or Portland, Oregon? I'm in Portland, Oregon and I know what you mean! Everyone chooses the Kicker L7 15's. Sure they get loud....but they have lousey sound quality. I wish people up here had more creativity! I'd love to get a Brahma for my 1991 Infiniti Q45, but trunk space in my car is unusually small. Right now I have a Pioneer Premere TS-W1241c in a 1.25cu.ft. ported box tuned to 45hz powered by a Kenwood 729s and it bumps purdy good. The box however takes up a good 1/3rd of my trunk! Hey...if your in Portland, Oregon...give me a holla at q45guy@attbi.com . //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

yeah, dude! I'm from the rainforests of Oregon. I'll email you. I've already emailed you about neons because I was wondering a few things. I'll let you know about the only adire audio dealer in portland, too. good to know there's another portlander up in myah.

Hey Mark_ab,

You glassed that enclosure? Couple of questions, if you don't mind..

1) How do you go about figureing out the volume? It looks like you might be able to fill it with water since the hole is at the highest point and it looks like it all slopes up (preventing bubbles, etc).. The area I'm looking at glassing over will have a lot of irregular shapes, some internal and I'm not sure how to accurately measure the volume..

2) How did you go about getting the proper shape? Did you 'wall' off in the trunk and pour some kind of base to get the shape (or is it just a pretty close fit and not quite as formed as it looks like it might be in the pic)?

3) What did you use for the sub mounting material? is that just MDF glassed in?

I'm asking because I'll be building some enclosures for my Blazer soon and don't know if I'm gonna run MDF or glass something out (I have a lot of irregular curves where I'm wanting to put the box so I'm thinking of form-fitting glass to best maximize space usage).. I just don't know how to go about getting the outside shapes or determining volumes..

Any info you have would be great //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Thanks!

Oh, looks great BTW.. Good job! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I built it how I wanted it to look and worried about volume later. It's as risky way to do things, although I estimated airspace before I started. I sprayed the inside of the box with 5 cans of Rubberized Car Undercoating for deadening purposes, and it also provides a great barrier against water which is used to figure out exact airspace. To get a rough estimate before you start glassing, draw the area in common rectangles and triangles, and figure out the volume from there.

I layed down duct tape on the area I was going to be fiberglassing on. Then I applied a thing coat of petrolium jelly (careful, it looks a tad awkward when you go and buy it at the local store //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif ) to all the surfaces. Then I layed down strips of fiberglass matt and resined over them. When it is dry I added more layers for strength sake, and then popped the mold out. That way, you don't stink up your car that much.

I used two pieces of 3/4" MDF which I cut out as a baffle, so that the sub sat flush and looked recessed. I then mounted the baffle to the fiberglass base using wooden dowels. This helped me to get the baffle elevated for the application of the fleece, as well as allowed me to play with the angle of the baffle.

man i can't imagine how many layers that must have took.......mind you mine probably took just as many....but still.....too much glass.....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif
