Sub and port location

I am new to this. I drive a 08 Yukon with a sundown x15. I just built a new box and wondering how I should put the sub. Sub up port up? Sub up port back? What's the benefits of each way? Thanks in advance

i have a s10 blazer and i have a 15 . i have tried different configurations and always go back to sub up, port back.

if you build the box with the port on a different wall then the sub, then you can turn, flip it around. then yo ucan see what you like.

port type is more important than direction, IMO. Square port vs. aeroport vs. octoport. Aeroport is most efficient. Best configuration is woofer and aeroport on the same plane, with enough space between the aeroport and the back wall to collect sound (more clearance than the diameter of the port). Make sure you have enough port surface area for the driver.

But as ^^ said, sub up and port back is a quite common configuration.

but most just go with slot port as its the easiest to design and construct.

but even with aero port back...

its the loading off the back wall ( tailgate )

The thing is I go to a lot of truck shows and always open up my back hatch so I don't want it to sound like garbage with the back hatch open

Subwoofers need project off of something, that's why port back is the best option. Take that hatch away and you no longer have that point of reflection. Also known as many other things, loading being the most common

I own a Scion xB. I have been playing with my woofer/port in a box I made exactly to factory recommendations. I put the sub and port on different panes so I can see which config I like best. I have found that I like the sub in the passenger rear corner facing driver side with the port (its a slot port) facing up along the rear window. It sounds almost as good with the woofer back, port up, but I hear more port noise (air noise) for some reason. Ill have to try sub up/port back again. Once I figure it out which I like best, Ill be building a more permanent cleaner box that fits my car better. Just thought Id share.
