Sub and Port Firing Direction

So how is removing a few 6x9 or 6x8 speakers in some cases, destroying an interior?> I get what your saying but tryin' to help ya out here. I've seen also a big hole in the middle of the back deck and some sort of homemade cover with scrap wood and speaker cloth to cover up the hole....ya know, make it kinda stealthy looking.

Removing those speakers will help the bass the the entire car.

You can do what I'm doing for a coworker and wall off the trunk. Doesn't really require a car modification except loosing access to the trunk from the interior. Then roll with the rear seats down for your bass and put em up when you have to. That'll make a big difference in your volume and SQ.

Otherwise, make a decent ported box and put a couple of inches away the back of the trunk with the sub facing rear or up and leave your seats down anyways. Truth be told it doesn't sound too bad. I've done that for plenty of people and they've been very satisfied. Just make sure you're smart about building your box.

Not particularly, no. Didn't mean to highjack your thread before. You might see an ever a minor cancelation at he ear on some notes, but its doubtful. It was pointed out to me by my engineer buddy that the port would have to 4.2 feet away from the driver to have an effect at 70 hz. And most ports don't play to 70hz. So for what you're looking for, no.

No reason not to design the port to fire onto your woofer if you can though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif. I told him I was thinking about it and he laughed and said that's how he built his box for his W6.

The main reason I feel I will opt for a side port is pure convenience in building. I could do three 4" aeros firing toward the trunk along with the subs, but it would take significantly longer and more money than just let's say a single 8" and calling it a day.

Also, what do you mean when saying "port to fire onto your woofer"?

I wouldn't worry about it to be honest, especially if you're using aeros or round ports. It's not really feasable with that type of port.

What I mean is if you have an L shaped slot port, instead of bending the L so it fires forward with the sub, start it on the side on the box and bend it so the end fires onto the sub. Basically, the port would run the length of the front of the box and end where the sub is. The portion of the front with the port would stick out a couple of inches and then step down to where the sub is mounted. Because it is a slot port, it would look like the front of the box just stuck out further and then stepped down to the sub. If you looked at it from the side with the sub, you'd see the slot for the port. I'd have to post a pic to explain further.

Side firing isn't uncommon.

However, having a port fire directly onto the sub driver itself, I just don't think that will work/turn out good at all. I can see cancellation issues on that.

Even a lybrinth style port on one side on the enclosure would work....while subs face towards the trunk.

Actually, it would reduce cancelation a bit by bringing the two audio sources together. Anyways, like I said before, one of my buddy's built his box like that and it was one of he best integrating sub systems I've heard to date. He had a **** good setup. However, we both came to the conclusion that its not really going to have much of an impact due to the frequencies being played and the distance youd have to set the port to get any serious canceling. It was a good experiment he said though. I could see that kind of a design being much more useful in a T-line enclosure.

Guess there's a reason why that hasn't been "invented" yet. Not only that but stupid looking to look at.
