Stupid question. Might as well ask it.

Ive got a class D mono amp. 2 channel. It can handle a 900 rms load @ 2 ohms and 500 rms at 4 ohms. If i purchased 2 subs, that were 300 rms at 4 ohms each. If i wire the amp and subs for a 2 ohm load, Would the subs still only put out 250 rms each (500 rms to be shared with both) or would they put out 450 rms each at a 2 ohm wired load if gain is maxed? I will adjust gain with a multimeter etc once installed.

Im not exactly new to car audio,i just dont know alot of the common knowledge facts of the electrical portion of audio. thanks.

The subs are those cheap hifonics HFX12d4 subs. I got em for $15 each at a local pawn shop. Ive heard decent reviews on them for budget subs.

If you wire two 4 ohm subs together in parallel, you end up with a 2ohm load on the amp. In your case, that means 900W. That means 450W per sub.

Hope Im understanding correctly.

These are DVC, yes?

If so, you can wire all 4 voice coils in parallel and give the amp only a 1 ohm final impedance to drive (if it is capable/stable at 1 ohm), and double the above.

Haven't checked specs on the amp or speakers, so this would be assuming that both could handle this configuration...

Cool. Thats what i was hoping to hear.

Random question. maybe im just an idiot. but ive gotta learn..

Whats the point of labeling a sub 1/2/4/8 ohm,if all you have to do is wire them a certain way to change loads? Is it the subs are just more stable from overheating etc in a load they are rated as?

As in if i run these 4 ohm subs in 2,will they be more prone to overheating etc.

Edit. flex posted as i was typing.

the amps not 1 ohm stable. the subs are dvc

Looks like 2 ohms is the way to go, anyway, since these subs are rated for only 400WRMS. 50 Watts is not much diff, but you will want to set your gains up to properly limit the amplifier's output so you don't constantly overdrive the subs.

I use the multimeter method for setting the gain. Ive only got 2 p2 subs thats 250 rms, they sound good, but im craving more, but im only on a budget income.

Question unrelated to the topic, maybe i need to post in the speaker forum, but my headunit puts out 50 watts x4. Im sure they are maybe 25 rms each etc. I still have the 2 factory 8 ohm 4x6 speakers in my dash. Im not sure how much they actually put out. I remember reading something like 15 watts each once..

Will replacing my speakers with something better seriously improve my overall sound? My friend said they'd just sound louder like turning up your volume. Im sure he's just talking out of his ***.

YES stock speakers BLOW ****. Thats the first thing I would even consider before subs honestly.. a new headunit + a decent set of speakers. Makes a world of difference.

I had to drive a car today for an hour or so with a stock system.. it was pure torture.
