stupid question, but need to know

Many HU's i look at say they have a rear aux-in port and i was wondering how exactly you plug in an ipod/mp3 player if its in the rear of the HU. Do they have to run a cord to the glovebox or something? and if not the glovebox where else? do they have to cut a hole in the dash if you want it elsewhere?

you can run the wire anywhere in your car, the wire just plugs into the rear of your HU and you can run the other end of the wire to wherever you want.

most HU's have ipod control inputs nowadays anyway though.
