strange..

while reworkin everyting today i decided to hook up each of my subs seperate to my d1200.1 amp, now when theyre wired together the amp sees 1ohm and seperate obviously is 2 ohm, now by ear a single sub sounds just as loud as 2 do. My first thought was strain on my electrical system is resulting from tryin to draw so much current. Yellow top the solution here? btw i tested resistance with a meter so i know thats right.

Don't the viper amps put out about 800 or so whats at 2ohm. I know the directed one's do. That could play into a little. Also like you said you could be straining you system.

A yellow top could help but a better alt is the answer. I would go with that first of all. Lastly, you could have cancellation between the two subs somehow. yes the amp puts out 800 at 2ohm and 1200 at 1ohm so obviously 2 would be louder than one, but i dont think its cancelling or even my ears because i can tell the woofers are physically moving less with both hooked up than they do when a single one is hooked up alone, i dont want to turn the gain up either because its set right now (to jmacs guide) to be putting out the full 1200

well i just realized the obvious....ive been running a 4ga power cable on a 1200 watt amp...i take it thats probably the trouble

4guage is fine enough for 1200 watts. That shouldn't be a problem. You only playing music and not sine waves so the amp will never be drawing full current from the battery.

well i put in a form for an alternator estimate, maybe looking at a yellowtop. the subs definetly are not reaching their full potential when wired together
