Strange Head Unit Issues. HELP!!!!!

So, I sold my old head unit to a friend, and bought another one off another friend, a really nice Kenwood. I connected the Kenwood harness to my Jeep's with butte connectors. Everything was wired perfectly, so I turned it on to test it out. I came to find that only the tuner part of the head unit worked, no USB, no CD. I came to the conclusion that the head unit was messed up internally. I got my money back and ordered an Alpine CDE-123 from sonic. It came today, wired everything up, same problem. I don't even know where to start messing with this thing. Somebody please give me a suggestion
