Strange Amp Problems

Ok, so here it goes, i was having a problem with my sub amp (http://forums.caraudio.com/vb/showthread.php?t=109827) which is a rockford fosgate 601s, so i then proceeded to do 2 things: I upgraded the grounds on my sub amp and the amp for the highs (just didnt have ring connectors before) and i also set the gains on my sub amp to 24.5, and the gains on my highs amp i have fairly low due to crappy sony speakers (i'm sure i'm not clipping on that amp). So now the problem is, i can run my system for about half an hour then the sub amp will shut off, but for 40-45 seconds, it then proceeds to turn back on for a couple minutes. After a few times of this my highs amp will turn off and the sub amp will be on, and every few cycles of this both will turn off then turn back on after about 45 seconds.

Here's how i have it set up, 4 guage power wire running from battery to trunk and 4 guage ground at the battery. In the trunk i have a 4 guage to 2 8 guage fused distribution block. From each amp i have an 8 guage ground. On the sub amp i have the subs running at 4 ohms x2 (yes, i have the subs wired properly.)

I read the voltage at the amps while the music is playing and it is about 13.9. Is this too low of a voltage? Thats one problem i can think of, also, might there be a short in one of my subs or something? They still sound good, but i dont know, maybe there can be a short with it still sounding good.

Well, thats all i have to say about that, does anyone have any ideas?

PS: Amp for highs is a MTX Thunder 564.

is the amp bridged cause if so... you are running the amp at too LOW of an ohm load... two 4 ohm subs ran in parallell bridged is 2 ohms... that 2 channel amp can not handle 2 ohms ESPECIALLY if it is a rockford Punch amp and not a power amp... if you have it bridged, un bridge it and run 1 speaker to each channel... problem solved... *less bass, less heat though... *

yes, its fixable, yes it could effect both amps... think about it... if 1 amp is having power supply problems, and is causing some sort of backfeed, it could make the other amp *depending on the resistance to ground which u say is good...* start to malfunction...

The subs are Power Acoustik FUBR-12, the box is about 1.25 ft^3 net (a box from best buy, ya, i know, i was stupid). So, could this be solved by having subs more around the power level of my amp?

YOU NEED A BIGGER box, or a ported box, get a 2.5 cubic feet sealed, or 1.75 ported... your realllllly underpowerin the subs, the reason the amp is shutting down is because of trying to work harder to make the subs move in a small box, the amp is running 300 watts / channel, which is WAY too little power for the subs, and those subs are actually DVC subs... are they D2 ohms or D4 ohms... basically u need bigger boxes if your going to keep that amp... that is why it's overheating... cause your underpowering the subs...

Alright, my subs are dvc 2 ohm runnin at 150 rms a piece (got the subs and amp while i was too stupid to knwo what i was doin) so that could be the problem i guess. Well i'm goin for some type-r's so hopefully i wont have this problem then. I also may be upgrading my amp, how does a lanzar htg244 sound?
