I currently am driving a 2001 Toyota Echo as my commuting to and from work vehicle, my dad bought it new 9 years ago and sold to me 2 years ago. there are no previous known problems with the car, especially electronically. the stereo is completly stock in this vehicle. my truck I have an Amp and 2 Subs though. =)
So about 2-3 weeks ago while driving along i went to turn up the volume a little and the sound just stopped. the lights and screen and everything never changed all looked normal and would seem like it should be working, however the volume doesnt work and nothing is coming out of the speakers. I eventually gave up and kept driving with no stereo. later that day after it was parked for about 4 hours i went to start it and the engine barely turned over. and then the next day it didnt start, the battery was dead. I drove it for about 2 days just boosting it every morning then randomly the stereo started working and after turning up the volume a little it stopped playing all sound again. So about 4 days later it randomly works again so i just left it at a very low volume and the battery did not die again, it was completly fine.
today driving home from work I was turning up the volume a little(i never listen to it that loud in this car, my truck is different however =] )and ofcourse it stopped again, all sound and stuff, nothing i can do, and my car is dead again!
I've looked for a short under the hood and cant find anything, and my 2 friends that are diesel mechanics are baffled by the problem, if anyone can think of a solution, or lead me in the right direction, that would be Greatly appreciated!
