Stock market , anyone?

Beyond Greed and Fear - Herf Shefrin (gives a great look at the emotional decisions that are made in Investing / Gambling)
Trading & Exchanges ~ Market Microstructure for Practitioners - Larry Harris (will make you understand how the market really works, the players that are involved, and how they are compensated)

The Millionaire Next Door - Stanley & Danko (defines wealth, how real wealth is built, and how to live within your means)

These three combined with One Up on Wall Street and A Random Walk Down Wall Street should give you a good basic platform of knowledge.

We can get much more advanced once you have completed these and a few basic finance/econ text books.
You know Mankiel sounds hypocritical at the end with the funds trading below NAV bit.

I wasnt reccomending he do any of those things, I was trying to disuade him from thinking of entering the market at a risky time where his chance of getting burned might be high.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

i will check those out , for sure. probably hit up the library and see what they have as well. free books ftw.

it was between stock and real estate. still thinking about getting up on real estate but i wanted to see how the market really worked and if it is really worth getting balls deep into.

im in the same boat I suspect - im looking to invest as well. However I cannot bring myself to sit down and read any book whatsoever so gaining a text based background on the subject is not going to happen.
that is how i felt but you wont get anywhere not doing anything , so i decided to take the first step so im going to pick one up. though i still think real estate would be a better investment.

Sorry, I am not knowing of any picture books on the subject.

I know, its just I cant pick up the book and do it. I think real estate is more of a "tangeable" way of investing....since you can actually touch and feel (and usually repaint) your investment. Its kinda hard to get personally involved with a web site with a bunch of statistics on how your money is doing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Perhaps I can get a popup book?
