As in damaged i mean everything from a scuff in the cone, to a full blown tear in the surround and or on-the-way-out spiders.....

Ive personally used half assed/damaged subs until they blew out or were sold or retired from use, but what is the boundary line of when its time to buy a a new sub and trash the old one?

For Ex: I have a BTL that has a puncture hole in the dustcap, used it for the winter/spring season, never seen any issues, although I've been told by others that I should fork out the $125 for a recone immediately? Am i Crazy for not doing so? I don't see the point....especially since the cone is still stiff as hell/like new.

Another good story, friends of mine had old school type r's, he blew the surround out on the cone, and gorilla glued em back together, if he wouldnt have shown me them I would not have known of any issues. Although that is a bit extreme if you ask me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Stories, experiences, comments please.

I've used lots of subs with a ripped surround with no problems. One of my hd3s has a tear in the surround but I don't even worry about it. I used my old mt 18 with pretty bad coil rub for a few months until I finally reconed it.

ask thorshammer, oh and type R surround glue sucks. I pulled a surround off by hand once and the glue was like rubber cement. It actually left the basket perfectly clean after pulling it apart

yeah i've duct taped surrouds, dustcaps, everything.

I blew my old JL12W4d4's to the point that the poly fill in the sealed box was black from the smoke billowing out of them //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif oh yeah those were the duct taped surround subs too, they didnt like my mtx 2300x at full tilt hehe

Yea i was getting low balled left and right for my subs on ebay and what not, and have heard as well others trying to do so. Must be the tough times in economy....

Shit most higher end subs hold their value because the motor/basket can be reused with a new cone obviously...

Oh you have a DD 18"? Ill give you $40 for the motor and $20 for the cone thats seen 1 hour of play time, deal or no deal?
