I have a 95 240sx. The back seat is removed so this is were my sub is going. I have infinity kappa speakers (6x9 in the rear deck and 6.5 in the doors). I want a clean sound with some punch. With the sub in the back seat I don't need lots of SPL. SQ should still be loud enough when a couple feet from my ear. I am thinking about Infinity Kappa Perfect 12dv or IDQ 12.

Would staying with the brand of the mids and highs help blend the sub in? I know you aren't supposed to mix brands in home Theatre but not sure if it makes a diff in cars?

The 6x9's are an older model. I can't remember the model but are 2 way with the twist to point the tweeter and has a solid metal mesh cover. I have some 4in kappa's that I haven't decided if I want use either.

Goal here is lower power system that sounds good. Don't need to be heard a block away just want to hear the music clearly while driving. The car has a 327 chevy in it with loud exhaust.

Well if you have a car with a loud exhaust, then want something loud enough.

I like the ID Q and they can get loud, but not sure how loud you mean your car really is. The Perfect Infinitys are just okay IMO. ID's are much better.......or if you have the cash, check out the IDmax, which is really nice.

No you don't have to stick with the same brand in car audio, just the same size in subs really. I have like 4 different brands in my current setup. JVC, Pioneer Premier, Hifonics, Clarion.

Really you can do that with home audio as well. Not sure who told you that, but I have a mix of JBL, Klipsche and onkyo throughout my HT setup.

Also you probably wondering why I recommend ID when I don't run ID. I am on an uber budget with my caraudio sounds, so that would be why. ID is a little more expensive, but you never gave a budget.

So what is your budget, lol!

The car is very loud right now. I am still scraping the money to quite it down. I have dynomax turbo mufflers I just have to take it to shop and pipes and hangers installed to run out the back. Right now it has 18in glass pacts hung on the end of the header collectors. The exhaust exits directly under the seats. THe car is a former drag car so no sound deadening.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I checked out IDQ's on ebay and they are within reach. I would like to keep is around the $150 and not more than $175. With the electric water and fuel pump I don't want to stress my alt. and battery too much. 300-350rms all I want. I was thinking about 2 12's but decided that I don't want to stretch my budget that much or the extra watts on the electical system.

I know you can mix and match home theatre speakers. I have heard it is best to use the same mids aspecially. Some brands tend to be brighter or more bassy (if that is a word). I think is more to keep one speaker from standing out whether from looking bad or making others look bad.

I second the ID Q after many months of research and asking questions about what sub to go with that is what I am going for.

I like the kappa's, and have always wanted a pair for my boat. They seem like good subs and it isn't too hard to power them. As for mixing brands, It doesn't matter in CA as much as is does in HT. My Polk audio DB's sound great with every kicker sub I've owned.

i have some infinity references in my car and they sound awesome. They blend very nicely with the sub stage depending on how loud i turn it. If youre only gonna be running 300wrms you wont need to worry about the sub being heard more than the speakers it should all blend nicely. Brand choice doesnt make much of a difference unless you put like a pioneer on the right and a sony on the left or something like that.

Also, pics of the 240 with V8 swap are needed //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

since this appears to be a race car i would suggest getting an IDQ. they are very light and have great output. i would say an idmax since you want to run little power and that sub is very efficient, however, the idmax is a heavy bish

either way you can't go wrong though.

former drag car. I use it as a bad weather car and grocery getter. Most of my time is on a 07 zx-10r (crotch rocket).

Stereo got put on hold anyway. Checked the oil this morning and it was overfull with milk. Heres to hoping for head gasket and not a cracked block.

Image Dynamics all day long! Infinity is not in the same class as image dynamics. I put two ID 8's in my truck. And I am here to tell you they make your average brand like kicker sound like shit man. Trust me there are not many company's out there that can compete with image dynamics when it comes to subwoofers man. The sound quality and output is simply amazing.
