Hi all,
Have done some searching but cannot find anything too useful. I have a 04 wrx which did have a stock sound system. Then started having issues with the battery, followed by issue with radio described below. Replaced battery, most of the problems went away but the radio issue remained.
Symptoms:
head unit and radio function normally on ACC power - sound plays, cd plays, radio tunes, etc. however, as soon as it is switched to IGN, the sound stops. All other 'functions' still appear to work - cd keeps spinning, radio allows me to tune, power button works fine etc. Then as soon as i switch back to ACC, the sound starts playing again.
Car has 8 wires for 4 speakers, so I am assuming that there is no ground anywhere in the actual wiring (which i confirmed with a multimeter).
Have checked the GND cable (and also the Chassis ground) for true grounding, which existed both on ACC and IGN
Have checked the +12v (ACC) and the +12v (Battery) wires, and both have +12v on both ACC and IGN
So I replaced the stock HU with a decent JVC and a plug-in loom (which I confirmed had all the correct connections).
Same problem. JVC head unit works fine on ACC, but no sound on IGN
This is really bugging me. My thoughts could be:
- car has a Brant alarm - perhaps could be causing current issues when switched to IGN (known for their electric gremlins, but beyond me to remove and diagnose)
- a short somewhere in IGN is causing too much current drain so HU can't power amplifier
I don't think internal amp is blown, or it wouldn't work when switched to ACC
any thoughts or insights on the matter would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers,
Andrew
