Stereo Problem

Hi,

I have been having some problems with my mates car stereo, there was a short and the constant 12v lead got singed, i have replaced this lead to run directly from the battery with a 10amp fuse, but still no life.

the next thing i was going to try was cutting the remote live for the ignition and running this off the constant as well, to see if the remote wire is knackered is this ok to do or not? Assuming then if ok that it just wont require the ignition to get the stereo on.
