Stealth Box for 12W7 Excursion

I am planning to make a stealth box in a '94 Corvette for one JL 12W7 powered by a JL 1000/1. My question is, how many inches from mounting depth to where the box is flush do I need so the sub doesn't hit whatever will be covering up the box (to make it stealth)? JL lists one way linear excursion as 1.15 inches...what do you guys recommend?

Some people claim longer excursion than this so I am asking what should be a safe number. Also from youtube videos it looks like its more than 1.15.

wow thanks for responding to this thread you helped alot,

but i would do 2-1/2" and you should be safe, i wouldnt cover it with wood or anytthing maybe a mesh grill or acoustic carpet

Sealed, and it will probably have acoustic carpet over it.
