Static in my tweeters! D:

Here's how my audio system went:

I first bought a powered subwoofer (it's a fantastic sub) and wired it from my rear speakers using a hi-lo converter and that worked great. I wanted to get a aftermarket stereo though and do it right.

So I got one off crutchfield and it came with the jvc harness and the crutchfield one so that I didn't have to cut into mine.

The crutchfield harness used 4 RCA's for the speakers. And lo and behold I have 4 RCA females on the back of the stereo. So I went with that for a while and it sounded good but I left my sub plugged into my Hi-Lo. This new stereo plays differently and was making my sub sound terrible so I decided to plug it into the stereo.

How I went about doing this is in the beginning was to take my two rear RCA plugs and make two females off the JVC harness. Although no matter how I set the positive and negative I managed to do something to cause the radio to flash "protect" (so I wouldn't blow anything being dumb).

So then came the better idea to buy two Y adapters (1 male 2 female) and plug them into the Front RCA jacks on the stereo. Front Rear on left and Front Rear on right. I lose balance but who cares songs don't use balance. This leaves room for my subs to plug into the rear and me to change my stereo setting from rear to subw. Sounds good except one thing.. The sub can't push nearly as much bass out as it could on my stock stereo and there is a VERY annoying static noise coming from my tweeters. The static is the main concern. It doesn't raise with revs and it appears to only be active when the car is turned on. Don't matter if key is in acc or ON, only if the car is running. Please help! I've lost all ideas and can only think to ask car toys to take a look )=

Now this noise doesn't go away, sub plugged in and Y adapters or any combination. Unless car is not running or volume is at 0

I am confused as to how you actually have the rca cables but here goes

read the info sheet from crutchfield 1st...

then go look at the back of the new stereo... just plug 1 end of the rca into the radio ( not the wire harness !!! ) and the other into your powered sub... /done /thread

and if that fails.... since you got it at crutchfield they will troubleshoot it over the phone with you for free

why would you ever pay the hack noobs at cartoys to do it?

they are an electronics store that sells ( and attempts to install ) car audio

they are not a competent car audio shop by any means...

I agree about the car toys but not sure what else to do. About those RCA's. The harness I have apparently converts my speaker wires into RCA's. I didn't make those, that's how crutchfield sent it. So instead of 8 speaker wires to solder to the other 8, I have 4 RCA's for speakers and 8 capped speaker wires from the jvc peice. I didn't plug any RCA's into the wire harness that wouldn't make much sense now would it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Oh and the sub is plugged into stereo and amp. Doesn't help my tweeter problem though )=

what are your tweeters running off of? headunit or external amp... do you have crossovers on the tweets. You have to have them other wise you are sending low frequencies to the tweets and will blow them instantly.

My tweets are factory so they have a cross over somewhere in there. This just came up recently. Let's ignore my first post and go with this:

My tweeters are making static noise. Goes away at 0 volume. It also ONLY is there when the car is running. If the car is off and the key is in acc or ON then this static noise is absent and everything runs fine. It doesn't appear to increase with volume or revs. I'm thinking a bad factory amp. Which *****.

Can I get new speakers and have them bypass the factory amp so I don't have to buy a new one?

I have no idea why your tweets are giving you issues then. unless your harness is mis-wired somehow. its strange that only your tweets are making noise when the car is on, my best suggestion would be to talk with crutchfield then. Im not very familiar with how these factory stereo integration harnesses work.

absolutely you would just have to tap the wires from your harness (before its converter box) and run speaker wire to each speaker. that would be the cleanest easiest way.

You're right about the strangeness of it so I went ahead and took a closer look and as it turns ot I was wrong. My rear speakers are buzzing too. I could swear that my front ones aren't though. Maybe it's being sent to the tweeters in the crossover so it doesn't affect the front speaker. I'm going to try my old radio and then try grounding the rca shielding and see what happens from there. Hopefully it's something simple! D:
