Static Driving Me nutZ

Alright while driving the other day, it started to rain and i strated to hear this static coming from my front speakers and really bad from the tweaters. Now weather this is a quincidence with the rain maybe, i am not sure. This static can only be heard on low volume music. I can hear this static normally on jazz and classical music. I have had this system for just about a few days, so its possible it was happening b4, but i didnt hear it. I have moved te ground wire to another location and it sill occurs. Unfortunately this problem is not one which occurs all the time its something that goes and comes and hardly occurs when the cars engine is off. One other thing that happens is when i switch modes on my HU from like tuner to CD i hear a small pop--its not loud , but i am unsure if this sis normal. The one thing that worries me is how likely is this a problem with the amp. I heard from a few threads that this model the us acoustics 4085 had some issued with static. Anyway tom i will try another ground location and try to shorten it a bit, but please inform me if you have any other suggestions as this is pissing the hell of me now.

Here is rundown of my system:

Front: Infinity ref 5000cs (conn to AMP)

REAR: Alpine 1329S (conn to HU)

SUB: Kicker C12 (conn to AMP CH3+4)

HU: Alpine 9805

Power/ground wire: 4 guage

RCA running thru center

Speakers wire running thru driver side

Power and REmote running thru Passanger side.

When you say "static" does it sound like a steady hiss?

Or like a bad radio station?

Does it change in volume as your system gets louder?

Does it go away if you turn your amp gains down?

Well i will try to explain this the best i can. When listening to jazz at any volume a static( the ones you hear when you have a old recording on tape or bad radio station, but not hum) occurs at the high sounds. When listening to music on high volume its audible but is kinda drowned by the music. Its clearest (the static) at low volumes where it can be heard clearly.

I have tried to adjust the gains (lower them) with no avail.

I am not sure if this has anything to do with this also. When installing the amp and inserting the power wires, i stupidly attached the ground wire first and the inserted the power wire. In the process of tightening the power wire with the screwdriver (i guess it touched the amp body) somehow a spark followed by smoke from the terminal (power positive). At that moment i thought little of it because it worked fine, but i can be wrong.

I would like to know if this is possibly a problem and if not any suggwtions.

Yes the short could have damaged the amp. If the amp is still

within its return policy, I would return it for a new one.

If you have any friends that have amps, you might want to try one

of their amps in your car to see if the problem still exists.

When installing the amp make sure the main fuse that is near the

battery is removed or the power wire isn't connected to the battery.

Only when everything is connected properly inside the car should you hook up

the power wire to the battery.

Do you think i should stil try to get it to work or get a new replacement. I bought it from sounddomain.com i dont know how they are with replacements.

What i dont get could the short have actaully done any harm- if its still woking for the most part.

I went ahead and called sounddomain.com and they said that they would refund me the cost of the previous one once they recieve and i should go ahead and order another one. I ordered another one hopefully it arrives by the end of this week maybe. Its really annoying i still get static on the radio and cd audio now mainly from the tweaters. I will probably ship out the old one once i now when i will be recieveing the other newer unit.

Does anyone have any ideas or is everyone dead sure its the amps fault. Like i said b4 this problem is unusual that it happens and goes or atleast i cant find a pattern to it.
