Static/Distortion, CANNOT SOLVE. Help!

Hi everyone, I need some serious help. I'm going to try and explain as thorough as I can bear with me please

I've had this system wired in its current configuration for several years. Worked fine. Recently I began to get 'cutouts' from audio. Half seconds where the volume seems to lower and you can hear some static. I thought it was my HU so I replaced it (since it was 5 yrs old and needed an ipod touch compatible one). Now I have the same issue, only the static is only present if my subwoofer is ON. (If its ATT in the HU everything worked fine.) I replaced my main battery terminals, cleaned out the battery, checked the main power wire thoroughly for damage and then checked it all the way up to my 2nd stinger battery in the trunk. Re-grounded my stinger battery to make sure it had a good grounding, and checked all wires and running from every speaker and from the subwoofers. When I get past 2/3 volume on my HU with the subwoofers on, they go into a seizure of distortion in which I have to turn off the HU for fear of f*cking them up. Checked the subs they are not visibly damaged and coil responds okay. I have the 'big 3' I've done on the car so I think its getting proper power and grounding (it has before), cables are in good shape, and HU was replaced so can't be noise from the HU. Im stumped.

You say that after the new H/U, you still have volume cuts when the sub is turned on? Have you tried totally turning off the sub amp? Also, post what amps you have please

I have two amps, one is a Dual, the other is a Digital Audio Monoblock amp. Maybe the seizure the subs are having is a sign of them bottoming out? The box they are in is ported @ 35hz I believe or close to that. Have no idea..

But as far as the cutting out goes, if the Monoblock is powered on, but muted at the HU. Everything works fine, if the subwoofer is turned on to say -10dB then when I get up to a certain level volume the woofers start to seizure and the mids/highs cut out. But only when the subs start to seizure. Yet each amp has its own RCA signal cables. Maybe the amp is going bad??

On the chance its a bad set of RCAs try playing some music and wiggle the cable ends (gently!) on the sub amp as its playing.

Sometimes the cables go bad, or it could even be dirt that accumulated between the plug and the jack on the amp.

Would bad RCA cables cause a bad signal at higher volumes like that? I might have to switch out the RCA for the subwoofer amp and see if that helps, if not. Its got to be 99.9% the amp.

If this helps anyone:

It was a fuse coming from the main cable from the battery. It wasn't completely blow, but slightly deformed and I guess when the power was turned up, it would create static and problems. Changed it and it now works fine.

Interesting. Well, that is a helluva lot cheaper than a new amp! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Glad to hear you got it figured out. If there is one thing I have learned when it comes to troubleshooting car audio issues, remember KISS - Keep It Simple Stupid! Sometimes the simple things to check end up being where the problem lies. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsup.gif.3287b36ca96645a13a43aff531f37f02.gif

x2, i had a bad voltage drop for some reason by just turning my HU on a few months back, turned out to be the screw on my fuse holder under the hood came loose -_-
