Starting for a new shop to be opened soon... What brands would you like to see?

good luck with starting the company. Not really a good time with money across the board from businesses to consumers getting tight.

Definitely a lot of good brands up for consideration but realistically you cant sell 20 different manufacturers of amps for example. Stick with 2-3 good companies per product type that put out good product and a good profit in your wallet.

Depends on the area if they recognize it - but any of my shops that take some time to show customers the product do quite well.

I see how that could work...but does Sundown bring customers into the store the same way something like Kicker does?

Just curious what John Q. Customer's initial response is when they see your gear. Not that there's anything wrong with it. I admit I don't know much about the average customer who doesn't frequent forums.

It won't bring them in the door until they know what it is - with a little effort this can be done pretty quickly. My successful shops get a good demo vehicle and then word gets around - for those that heard about it and/or just walking in they show it to them and even will hook it up in their car vs. what they have now - really sells itself at that point.

Gotcha...I have never seen a shop go as far to a/b demonstrate to customers their products. I couldn't even fathom the idea. Most shops are "we have a,b, and c. They are all good stuff." -- which leaves the customer clueless.

Indeed - the successful shops are willing to do this type of thing, it really makes a huge difference to the customer.

Either way, he will most assuredly regret it. Not a good time for car audio. Consumer electronics spending has been trending down, and within that sector, the audio portion is not fairing well. The only audio related industry that is seeing some growth is portable....and it's been like this for a while.

You need to have a range of products when you have a shop. Not everyone in the world is made of money and not everyone is going to want products from companies like Sundown or Incriminator because they are not big names, yet. You should carry at least one company, like Sundown and then carry something very well known like Kicker or JL and then carry cheaper lines like PA, Boss etc....to cover your consumers who have little to no money. If you don't cover all the levels of consumer spending, you won't make as much money. Two local shops around me are setup completely different. One sells cheap junk like PA, Boss, etc and the owner has very limited knowledge on car audio. He does ok but not great. The other shop carries everything you can think of and they do awesome. Everyone around here knows their name. The more you can find out about how the people in your area spend money on car audio, the easier it will be to pick the companies you want. As Sundown and other companies become bigger names, they will be desired because they make an excellent product.

Yes, id not invest in a business right now. You'd have better luck just playing the stock market at this point, and alot less effort.

fusion has a good dependable entry level product. if you contact bob at american bass he can set you up dealer direct(unless he already has a dealer in you area). american bass have a great entry level product, mid line, & awesome spl product. good luck!

I am not the one starting the bussiness, I am just the one who will be running the electronics end of it. The guy who owns the bussiness already has a body shop as well as a garage. He is trying to make it so that someone could drop off their car and have anything they want done in house. Nothing to be sent out or waited on.

I know that this isn't the greatest time in the mobile electronics industry. I got laid off from the shop I was working at about a month ago now due to it being so slow. But I feel that we will be much more successful here as we have a bunch of steady accounts lined up which will pretty much be the bread and butter right there

Definetly hertz and diamond. Also I would look into morel, zapco,rockford fosgate,ppi and jl audio. Some good budget brands would be soundstream and power accoustik.
