Well, just layed down 2 layers (3 layers in some spots). It was horrible. I could hardly get my hands in there. The resin would dry out super fast. I even got a hard piece of resin on my windshield that I can't take off...any suggestions?

I don't even know how I'm going to get this out, and I'm not sure if I did a good enough job. If not, I'm not sure I'll try this spot again. I just don't have that kind of patience.

looks ok i guess from the pictures? its not supposed to be beautiful at this stage. if it feels too flimsy to pull out, i'd put a couple more layers down. as far as it hardening too fast, it depends on the temperature outside. iirc, the warmer it is outside the less hardener you actually need.

oh and i got resin on the body of my car one time, and if you take a razor blade and carefully remove it, itll look like it was never even there.

I got the resin off the window with acetone. Took some scrubbing, but it finally came off.

How long should I wait to try to take the mold out?

take it out when its completely dry. you should do 3-4 layers of glass...Did you rub some vasoline on the tape to make it easier to pull the mold out?

sprayed wd-40. I figured 2 was plenty since it's only a tweeter pod. If this screws up, I'm getting advice on making a foam mold, and then fiberglass that outside of the car.

Woo HOOOO!

I got it. It needs another layer or two, but the mold turned out great. I peeled most of the tape off and fit it back in, and it fits like a glove. I dropped resin in one spot, but it's not notieceable. Man, I am psyched. I hate to sound like such a nerd, but it's my first time with fiberglass and I didn't screw it up.

FTW!

so you are trying to fit the mid and the tweet in there.

interesting idea, it should work out. big thing though, when you mount the rings, make sure they are level with the edge (or maybe a little bit further out) so that the vynl wont be too hard to wrap on there.

if you have a router, round the edges on the rings, will look a ton better.

to stick it to the glass, some thin 3m tape should work fine. i dont think it should be too heavy, that stuff is real strong.but it might add to the 'depth' and make the pod not fit right.

anyway. lookin cool. it looks like it could end up looking real good.

tip for the finishing part.

when you wrap and are all done and ready, put the pod in after you wrap and glass the front and are done sanding. then get some kittyhair bodyfiller, and tape the A pillar again (as SMOOTH as you can possibly make the tape) then put the pod in the hole (maybe with the sticky tape on the back too) and then take the kittyhair and push it in the edges between the pillar and the enclosure. this will give you perfect fitment of the pod because it can warp as you build it and change size a little.

then sand off the extra filler and make it nice and smooth, and wrap in the vynl. should look real nice.

The original idea was for only a tweeter. After some feedback about putting a midrange in there, too, I think I'm going to go for that. Until I get a midrange, I'm not going to wrap this yet. I may go ahead and mount the tweeter, though. I'm probably going to be limited to a 3" midrange though...I don't think I can get anything bigger than that in there. We'll see though.

I was planning on having two baffles. The top one would be larger, and the bottom would be where I mount the tweeter. That way it would be a flush mount. I thought about routing, but I'm not sure how easy it would be since it's such a small circle…I dunno, may be easier than cutting out 2 rings.

I had planned on using some industrial velcro. Probably under & up top.

As far as wrapping it in vinyl, do you have any recommendations as to what to use to make the vinyl stick? I thought about just pulling tight and using some 3m spray glue, then stapling it down on the side or bottom where the staples wouldn't be seen.

Thanks so far.

It looks like a good start man. Don't get too frustrated with sanding/bondoing/glassing and repeating 'em. It'll be cool with a mid up there too. You may want to run a dedicated midbass in the kick or something. Another project to glass after you do this one ;P

p.s...fiberglass is ugly until its done.

Thanks.

I think that after I get a midrange, I'm just going to use my Rainbow and cross it lower and make that my midbass, at least for a while.
