SS RL-P or W6v2?

Interesting read...

I heard that

TC1000 = RLI > Assassin in output and SQ.

RLP > RLI in terms of output

And then from my own testing I like the SQ of the Assassin the same or better than the W6 although it did not get as low or play as loud, but it was close in performance at it's rated power. I'd still take a W6 over assassin for these reasons. Althoguh I would buy Assassins before W6's due to cost / performance relationship.

So WTF...Also we have no idea if the comments on ROE were referring to the ported box or the sealed box. If i remember SS suggests putting them in sealed enclosures. Also in that review they were sending the W6 woofer 2x it's rated power and it was only tested in a ported box.

Sounds like RLP could be better than the W6 sealed and the W6 could be better than the RLP ported. I know someone tested RLP's before and the enclosure it was placed in made a HUGE difference in performance, perhaps the ROE guys put it in a too large of a box.

Hell I think the Arc Subs have excelent SQ in sealed boxes as well.

I was int he same boat as you but also limited to mounting depths which did not allow me to put in W6's so I settled for the TC1000's I still have to test them out. I hope they are better than my Assassin because so far that is my favorite woofer. I heard an Arc Black cone 12 that sounded really clean as well, better than the W6 I listened to ff I remember correctly but again not an insaine amount of output in a small sealed box.

While I can't disagree that Jim heard what he did with the Rl-p (in the ROE review)....I can say that his subjective review isn't representative of the general consensus on the Rl-p's performance. Without being there I can't say why he didn't like it....if it was enclosure related, sound preference related, etc. But you can find some bad/non-flattering reviews for just about any product on the market.

I had an Rl-p and think it's a great option for someone looking for a good sound quality driver capable of pretty good output levels (a single 12" in 1.25cuft sealed w/ ~800w had more output than I'd ever need).

I prefer the sound of the W6v2 to the Rl-p. But as was mentioned, the w6v2 won't quite have the output of the Rl-p....and the Rl-p certainly isn't a bad sounding driver if you did want the slightly higher output capabilities.

Never heard the JL's, so no opinion there. But I'm EXTREMELY happy with the SQ and output of my RL-p's.

Unless you're a very discerning listener you'd probably never know the difference. I don't think the Q has as good of SQ as the RL-P, but it still sounds good and is enjoyable to listen to.

If you're concerned about output I'd lean towards the RL-P if most think it will play louder.

Can you demo one locally? Maybe someone on the forum...
