SQ wrt Daylight/Darkness

I've noticed throughout my many years of cruising day and night that I would swear every system I've ever owned sounds better when it's dark outside.

I'm hypothesizing that because of the lack of visual information available, your ears pick up more, and possibly even your sense of touch (wrt bass).

Anyone else notice that music sounds better at night, and it doesn't seem to take as much volume to satisfy?

It kind of seems like that sometimes. Your guess at the lack of visual information is possible, even though I would not find it out of question if your visual system actually works HARDER at night, as you have to focus on seeing......what's become hard to see.

It could also be a part of how relaxed one feels, maybe at night..... traffic is not as bad, and you can relax just a little more.

There isn't as much noise at night, it's cooler, no light. More enjoyable.

yeah i noticed that too... basically thats because ambient noise is noticable lower, meaning less cars on the road, people are sleeping and relaxing rather than out working..

heat = expand

cold = contract

maybe it could even come down to the temps and the molecules that make up your sub material? amp may not be getting as hot, etc.

I love cruising at night with the system up. I'm sure it surprises people cuz they can hear the words instead of just bass coming from my car.

You are correct. At night your sense of hearing is heightened because of lack of light.

Many audiophiles choose to listen to their home setups at night as it gives them that extra edge in hearing the most minute sounds. A bit overkill if you ask me but the theory of it all is the same.

I spent 14 years in the army. For fun, we would slap the bolt into the chamber of the M16 during the day and then at night.
