SQ..what is it?

I understand that there are pre-defined definition of SQ. I've found myself losing interest in listening to other people's cars at meets, though. I think I've heard enough to know what I'm aiming for in my system. I know I listen to any music I can find and I want it ALL to sound good.
A quality set of headphones will help you define what "SQ" is much better than any number of other people's car audio installs, or even home audio setups. If you want reference and cant go listen live, buy some nice headphones.

I can't agree with all of that...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

its all subjective..

think about a great wine.. you will have a majority of wine drinkers who love it.. its great has great taste smell etc etc etc.. then there will be those who don't like it as much as a wine most think is bad or not as good.. thats why there are soooo many ****ed versions of everything..

Sound quality is not wine. Is accuracy a quality of wine? If you think SQ is subjective, you really dont know what SQ is all about.
Get off my phoooooone!

sound quality is not just accuracy..

and also since no one knows exactly what the original sounds like accuracy is opinion.. some believe it should sound like ... some believe it should sound like xxx.

So now you are changing your opinion from 'its all subjective' to its somewhat subjective? That's ok, at least you are making progress.
Just because human's ability to decide what is accurate or not, at least in some terms, is subjective, does not make the goal subjective.

This thread is better than the last one, though there is still some SQueerity(elitist attitudes) in here, personally I think that SQ is a concrete thing, and what actually sounds good to people is another. To some people "cheap" not very tuned comps and 1k+ of sustage sounds good, but it is NOT SQ. And to others it may accurately recreate the music but it will not sound good to another person but be the pure definition of SQ. I'll eventually venture into the SQ world somewhere down the line, but for now I'll let the tweeters be very loud and harsh trunk rattle and piss everyone off(except in residential neighborhoods after 10). Even when I do venture into high quality sound products I still will likely have a retardedly loud substage.

no its still all opinion.. the people putting the final touches on the song put them there by their.. OPINION.. the final result is all in the listener.. however they perceive it..

I'd say it's based on memory, which for most, is not very good. And memory is tied to emotion, not necessarly accuracy. But I agree on the *should* part 100%.

Again, the music/sound itself is absolute, not relative and we can measure it for "accuracy." How can a sound wave be open to interpretation? 200 hz could be road noise, a man speaking or a fundamental note on a piano...all look the same subjectively, all sound drastically different. Hence, "SQ" as we use it contextually is timbre. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timbre

There are a couple of tests you can take online that can test your ability to detect tone and rhythm changes in music. You can also test your ability to detect very small changes in harmonic distortion. Better yet, download some ABX comparison software and really start listening to your stuff. All this will make for a "SQ" humbling if you're convinced your ears are so good.

Lets pretend humans developed the technology to accurate measure staging and timbre (to borrow foxpro's definition)... would it still be opinion? What if you stood there while the recording was made, and knew how the mixer "fine tuned it", or knew it was not altered at all. Would it still be opinion? Would someone else's opinion of the reproduction of this recording, that you experienced live, be just as valid as yours? If you answer these questions with a yes, then I dont see any other way to get through to you.

Again, just because humans' ability to experience the reproduction is subjective does not make the goal subjective. You are still hung up on the wine idea, which is in no way a "reproduction" of anything.

what have any of you found to be nice locations for staging? ive got 2 pair of 6.5 components and have read its good to keep the tweets and the mids close to one another. my otions are pretty much open atm, will be fiberglassing an enclosure for the mids either on the doors or in the kicks, but am not sure which would be best. and on the sq objective subjective issue im gonna h ave to stick with reproducing the original recording most accurately would be my outlook as well.
