SQ from a stroker? Plz. advise.

I need to squeeze as much SQL as possible out of a 15" CV stroker 4000W. I play Berlioz and Modest murgosky. Their style is the most difficult to satisfy because it has valleys of light soft symphony inbetween towering peaks of loud, glorious full-blown orchstra. SPL is a MUST but I need good SQ as well for the soft parts. What can i do with this stroker to maximize SQ?

Do you already own this driver and are curious how to make it sound good? SQ, Berlioz, and CV Stroker don't belong together. If you're after SQ with the ability for life-like transients you might want to look into multiple subwoofers.

Asking about a Stroker and Berlioz is like asking if a top fuel dragster can be driven from your house to the grocerty store on a daily basis.

Electro, your response is pretty much spot on, but here's me playing Devil's Advocate: You COULD drive a top fuel dragster to the store on a daily basis, but it would take a lot of time, a lot of money, and quite a bit of skill and luck.

Yeah, I had a feeling that might have been the case. And even though everything here can be taken out of context and/or blown up to the extreme / flamed beyond belief, I will say this:

15" CV Stroker , 4k watts, and SQ DO NOT MIX.

(sigh) My worst fears are comming true. I was just ready to buy the thing. I want great sound but for once I want something that will make all my friends step back. I found this stroker in the factory box, never used, never installed for just $300 shipped. I may be new, but it seems like too good a deal to pass up. Honestly I haven't figured out any other part of my stereo yet. What would be a sub with high SQ but a serious SPL as well? Or would it be practical to wire in 1 or 2 SQ subs beside the stroker on a seperate channel and toggle them back and forth?

You could try a sealed box with interchangeable port. Put in the port for SPL, seal it off for daily listening. The response actually models decently in a large sealed box, not peaky like the ported box, but the Qtc is still high and it will it won't be as accurate or sound as good as other options available. Still if you are dead seat on the Stroker you could give it a try sealed and see how it sounds.

I agree with this statement, however just want to make clear that 4k and SQ can go hand in hand. I'll running around 4k to a single 18" TC 5200. I plan to listen to it at moderatel levels where everything blends, which is where SQ comes into play.

However, I'll still have the ability to crank it and get loud while still sounding good, however, it's not SQ. I think many people have a misperception of SQ, sounding good and sound quality are two different things once you get into it. But again, I don't think the Stroker will provide the type of sound another driver would that would sound good and get loud rather than just getting loud.
