sq and gobs of bass

This is something I've been wondering for a while. Why do a lot of SQ installs have huges amounts of bass? 2 or 3 15s with like 1500+wrms? Is it to look flashy or does it follow the thought that speakers can produce a more dynamic sound if fed with a lot of power to replicate the sounds that took a lot of power to create in the first place (snare drum hits come to mind)?

I remember reading a thread (icix maybe? posted at ECA for sure) that someone... was tying to get isca to get spl to be counted only as a tie breaker. I don't know why I didn't remember this before...

my sq install, i have two 15's, but they are fed with meerly 600w of power. they are IB with a very smooth accurate sound. i can attenuate them to each type of music im listening to, and i usually have it on ~2 of 15 wich is quite moderate. i like the ability to have a good amount of bass, but remember - my frontstage is VERY efficent, so i need somthing that can keep up at louder levels.

i believe i will only score about a 135~140 on the TL to be quite honest. and i dont think SPL should be part of SQ juding, but i think you need to make a 135 sealed on the dash iirc - thats what i heard at least. and quite frankly, for me that is more than enough and can be done with a single 10" in a sealed box.

Lots of information being thrown out there, but do we know what sanctioning body the OP is thinking about competing in? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

In MECA, they don't care what your metered score is. It's SQ, and you'll get points taken off if your substage is overbearing.

I don't have personal experience with either USACi or IASCA, so I can't comment on those, but the rules are posted on their respective websites if you want to see for yourself.
