SQ: 12'' IDmax or W7

Ive owned both and used both in sq setups, while i cannot say one sounds better than the other, the w7 does have a unique sound but the max definitly blends better with my front stage than the max.

However i notice your systems in your sig, if your concerned about sound quality your going to need an actual system, a sub and amp is not a system

So to the OP... what's your front stage look like?

There's nothing wrong with being a bass head. (as long as you don't live on my block!) But if that is so, there are better pure SPL subs than the W7 and IDMax. Maybe look at SSA, Incriminator or Digital Designs.

w7 is a great SQ sub in the right box, one of my favorites.. havent heard the idmax yet though

W7 has better objective performance.

Doesn't necessarily mean you'll subjectively "like" the sound better.

Be careful of subjective comparisons. Just because someone has "heard" them both, or even owned them both, it doesn't make their subjective comparison meaningful.

I have both. 2 idmax's are currently IB'd, and the 12w7 is in my computer room waiting for HT duty.

IMO, it's a very close call. The w7 has a massive bottom end that seems to be better than the idmax. However, above 40hz the IDmax seems to have more output; so much in so that you'll probably want to knock down the 50hz region a few clicks to help it stay linear.

I typically ran/run both up to 50hz then let my midbasses take over. But, I've often ran them as high as 110hz for when I want to rock out. Both do very well. Both have a lot of output.

Honestly, they're very close to compare.

I'm actually now selling my idmax's to go with a different IB setup, but not because I didn't like them; I just want to change things up again.

Bottom line:

Go with what your budget allows, or what your space allows. They're both very similar but have subtle differences. It's all in the install.
