Sprint/Nextel

I am considering switching to nextel cuz I get a discount somehow for working at ACS. Nextel has been around here for a while and I like it cuz its got the walkie talkie. I would like to get the sprint service b/c I get a bigger discount with them instead of nextel, but they don't have that service in this area which I think is stupid b/c we have nextel and they are the same network right //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Anyways I was looking at the nextel phones and they dont have any free ones with 2 year contract, and the cheapest one is like $50 after mail in rebate. That phone is very basic doesnt even have a screen on the outside, but in the sprint section they have loads of free phones and one of them I really like. It has the PTT and everything.

Question: Will sprint phones work on nextel?

I don't think it will. I've had Nextel for years now and just recently switched my plan to the sprint/nextel hybrid phone. Its wierd because sometimes the phone will have full signal but the walkie talkie won't and vice versa.

no, sprint phones will not work on nextel. hell, over half the time nextel phones wont work on nextel...

they are NOT the same network, they are the same company, but not the same network. there are a few phones that will work on both networks, however. nextel is by far the worst service provider out there, i would recomend moving far far away from them. and they are also rumored to be closing the nextel service line in the not so distant future, which might explain why they have stopped spending any money on improving the network, promoting it, and why they dont have any good phone promotions...

Hmmm... I remember when we used to have only one service provider in the area, Cellular One, which is what Iam using now. It seems like the service is getting shittier every day. I never had a dropped call for 2 years but in the past month I had atleast one dropped call a day when I had full signal. Nextel was the second provider to come in, then Bluegrass Cellular came in, and now we just got AT&T. I just figured since I get a discount at nextel that would help me out. Right now iam paying $45/mo for 350 minutes, unlimited text, unlimited nights and weekends and no contract. I might just go with the go phone at att since I dont like contracts.

Thanks for the heads up on nextel, would **** if thats true

if that aint the truth, i have had nextel for 4 years now and i hate them with a passion, my phone in most areas have little to no signal and since they joined sprint/took over the quality of my calls and beeps havd droped my rates have gone up but ontop of it all nothing has improved its been steadly down hill, they sent me a mailer the other week , for 200 dollar credit to my bill to extend my contract for another 2 years i was like **** you lol i wont be tied down,. i was thinking about switching to southern link or just biteing the bullet and going tmobile or att

Nextel is kind of expensive compared to other plans too btw
I get 20% off so that helps a little bit. ATT is more expensive than what I have now and I dont have a contract. The way cellone is setup its just about as cheap to go with their evo plan which has no contract as it is to have a 2 year contract. Bluegrass is pretty cheap which worries me.

Sprint SERO>all
Search for it on here.
Nextel is iDEN, Sprint is CDMA. With Sprint SERO you can roam on any other CDMA carriers' network, Nextel cannot. I had Nextel in Northern Kentucky, never had a dropped call, but ended up getting SERO because a 700wx beats an i880 or i930 any day, plus SERO is 500anytime, 7pm n&w, unlimited text/data for $30 a month, $35 after tax I believe.

it all depends on the towers in your area... the hybrid can use either nextel or sprint towers... i don't know how that works with the walkie though... check the cancer rates in your area... if they're high... then you probably will get good reception just about anywhere

(ps. i have nextel and it seems like its more SPRINT/nextel... It really seems like they're tryin to phase out the nextel or something... i know my web account for nextel sure did disappear)

Hate to tell you man but they both ****. just my opinion nextel don't like cause u dont get service everywhere and spring i don't like cause there customer service sux. i have a t mobile flex plan and love it works great and even better service:D.

Sprint CS can ****, you just have to know what department to call //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Their network sucks, but 50% of the time I'm roaming on Verizon anyway //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Powersource, uses Sprint for voice and data and Nextel for PTT. Hybrid phones, icXXX models for the most part.
