That would be a lot of weight to deal with not including sub box amp and whatever else you end up putting back there.

It would probably make the trunk pretty damn solid, that's for sure. But i say go with deadener because it's proven to work

and it does work great my car sounds like it made of wood. i used about 7 gallons between 2 cars and well worth it. I may never use a mat product again.

Sound deadeners are heavier - and more effective.

What do sound deadeners physically do? Answer that and you will have solved your problem. And no, they are not for mass loading. Very poor choice for that.
