Split coil Fi? Sexiness!

jbl is available in retail shops, automatically dqed from bonerness
I've yet to see a Wgti in a local retail shop...maybe I just wans't looking hard enough, but it's hard to miss one of those things.

I think the JBL is a differential drive though, where it's two distinctly different motor systems working push-pull to cut down on THD. Whereas, this split coil is working within the same single flux field (albeit with two distinct gaps) and the coils just work in tandem to get a hug stroke, kinda like the Parthenon? I'm not 100 percent on that though.
Indeed. I just find it funny how some CA enthusiets get so excited when an internet company tries its hand at something that's been done before and overlooked because it was from a "mainstream" company.

Carry on.

EDIT: This isn't to say it wont be an interesting speaker, but the "OMG!!!! look at this!!!!!!" part of me went away a while ago.

I may not have worded it well enough for you to see the distinction I was trying to make between the two. That would be my fault.

I'm questioning whether or not this is a differential drive system or if the two coils will be used in tandem in a single area of flux for a very long stroke.

The systems are different and produce very different results.

You remember seeing the supergauss sub that nick is referring to in the OP?

Take a look at the fi section on SSA. What you're saying looks to be the case.

I understood the separation you were making between the two //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I don't see FI being the company that would utilize it like JBL does, though. Which is what you were implying.

Oh, okay. Sometimes I don't articulate things very well and I wonder if if anyone understands what I'm babbling about.

I need to look into this Superguass 3, I've not followed RE's progression but they seem to be performers.

This seems like XBL^2 with the split coil design?
I think the idea behind these coils, is to allow for two separate motor structures, driving the same cone/suspension system.

XBL is generally used with a single coil, and technically a second gap, but it's just a chunk missing from the top plate and pole piece.

There is a picture on the very bottom of that .pdf file.
