Looks like Fi is taking things to a whole new level.

Split coil...in a whole new definition

http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/index.php?/topic/32483-mmmm-split-coils/

Been working with a lot of split coil stuff lately with SG3 (Supergauss 3 for those who don't know) and some Industrial applications..thought some of you would like to see some really big off the wall cool stuff that we do that you simply do not see anywhere else...The coil on the right is the original 4" XMX...the one on the left is a 3" coil that we are using for an industrial application. The quarter is in the picture for a size reference...

Just another way we march to the beat of our own drum... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

JBL makes great stuff. They're just another multimillion dollar company who makes their $ from low end equipment, so they can afford to sell very few of their NICE woofers / amps..

Fi & other online companies.. aren't so much the same.

Where's the JBL boner? They've been doing this for years....
I think the JBL is a differential drive though, where it's two distinctly different motor systems working push-pull to cut down on THD. Whereas, this split coil is working within the same single flux field (albeit with two distinct gaps) and the coils just work in tandem to get a huge stroke, kinda like the Parthenon? I'm not 100 percent on that though.

Jesus help us all. How will the suspension deal with that potential?
what im thinking! ripped spiders anyone?

also the mounting depth on a driver with that size of former is going to be massive!

would 10" spiders handle that?
