SPL - L5 15 or HC 15?

WE ARE COMPARING A L5, NOT AN L7!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

haha. untie your panties.

ok. l5.. even playing field.

if you waste your money on an L5 you should be punched too.

its a 20-40 dollar difference online.

the hc box was designed for it.. 3.5 cubes at 35 htz.. right off the webpage specs for a "street box"

plus it was put in 3 other boxes, a spl only box, a sq styled ported box, and another average street box.

but to say it again.. the boxes are THE IDEAL FOR EACH SITUATION. no i didnt spend the time building the ideal box for each sub, i wasnt going to waste hundreds of dollars doing the math and labor for all 3 cars they were in, but hands down the L7 STOMPED on the hc, no question. i'd put 100 dollars on my L7 any day of the week against a hc. thats how confident i am that i am correct.

the MOST we got out of the hc was mid 140s, the L7 was in 155s.. no comparison.
man you just broke my heart. i had a l7 15, but i returned it and ordered an hc today. i like it loud. oh well i hope it will be louder than my old pair of mtx 4000s

haha yeah sorry.. hc = sq sub.

they can re-cone it for a spl setup though.. at least thats what i heard.

What size HC did you hve in this 3.5ft box?

If Im understanding you correctly you mean the 15"? If so....That is nowhere near the optimal enclosure buddy. The specs on the site are MINIMUM airspace requirements.

Go try it again with the HC in 7 cubes with 100sq in of port.

Youll also notice that the HC has a higher impedance than that of your L7.

Also.....For a daily driving setup...The HC will have a lot cleaner sound and pound out the low notes harder than the L7 too.

HAHAH..

ok.. it was a 15. look at ALL the boxes i used.. all of which are very optimal boxes for various setups. 7 cubes with 100sq for port? i dont even have that to give up in my explorer.. just not a realistic enclosure.

i said that the hc sounded hands down the best of ANY sub in that test.. hands down.. only thing close to it was the L7 and the xxx, which says something for re.. you guys can make em sound good and 152 out of that xxx was pretty darn nice..

as far as "cleaner" and "pounding out the low notes" i'd love to challenge you that. last night after switching to a modified aero port i got my 2 L7s to a 158.1 on a audiocontroll mic. thats impressive, not only that, but it was hitting in the 25 htz range.

im sure that as a re rep or whatever your a great person to talk to about the quality of other subs //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

cant wait to see you in the lanes.

man, if the L7 is louder than the HC, then I think I might change my mind... it costs a whole lot more here too, and I think the L7 is cheaper than the HC, even with a big discount on the HC...

but your findings was on 15" subs... would it be safe to say that the reults would be similar with 12" subs?

all my numbers here on the forums for L7s are for 12s. i wont use a 15 in competition because a) i think there is a more responsive snap from a 12 that a 15 just cant get... and b) i love the way people oogle my low end with 12s.

12 L7s ****ing smash. thats what i hit my 158.1 with..

i love kicker.. i love my hc too, i mean it sounds good and is a nice daily, but for someone who really wants to pound, L7 all the way. i feed my L7s 2k watts all day every day.. constantly at 3/4 volume and they take it no problem.. i fed one close to 4k watts for 30 seconds and it took it with NO damage.

leave the spl to the kids who do it right, kicker, dd, memphis, and treo. i've seen other setups with other subs, but it's these four i consistentlysee in the top 3 at meets..

hmmm, you're really swaying my decision now. I'd just like to see what David has to say about this point. I can only offer a ported 2~2.5CuFt box to a 12" sub in my car. David has told me that the HC and SE will both work fine in that space. I dont think that's enough to get the square to pump hard.

The 12" L7 is rated at a modest 500 or so RMS, I think. The amp I am about to get produces over 1000watts RMS, so I really gotta see how this goes. At the end of this thread, I think I will decide what to buy.

SPEAKING OF THE 15 HC V8s10 are you ever gonna get back to me!!!! Read your PM!!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

wanna know the box that i'm running my 2 12 L7s in? about 3.1 cubes per sub. before that i was doing 155s with 2.8 cubes.. alot of it has to do with port placement, car size, and box shape.

i never needed huge boxes to make them perform. never. i tried a 5 cube box the other day, way way way to shitty and when it hit it's frequency i was in the 154s, which i liked but i've gotten better with less space.

as for your watts, i run my L7s at 2k watts each DAILY DRIVEN. so long as you have a good CLEAN amp and dont play with gains or become a volume master, you'll be fine with 1k to 1500 watts on a L7 12.

im not going to lie that i havent blown a few... about 8, but thats due to USER ERROR, points where i would accidentally mess with the gain on my e.q. and screw up the signal or my previous amps *(2 memphis mojos)* would spike on me.. but when your running them for 3 to 4 hours solid you gotta have a solid amp..

if your serious im more than happy to help you with an L7.. they are great subs to work with.

i also enjoy my re hc 15. i mean she sounds nice.. she's going into the girl's car... just average bass.. sounds good.. but you could obtain the same sound from any other s.q.l. driver anyway.. but the price i got it for was awesome.. so i couldnt pass it up. just depends on what you wanna do with it.

Its not my fault if you cant fit a large enclosure in your vehicle. Unfortunately the HC will need that size enclosure to get a nice spike in the frequency response where the L7 doesnt.

Im not saying the you are wrong, or that your tests are wrong or inaccurate. Im sure your results are absolutely correct. All I'm saying is that you did not use the optimal enclosures for the HC.....or XXX for that matter. You base your decisions from that test as if it is the end-all be-all of spl comparison.....which it is not.

Anyway....Im not gonna argue with you. Ill just leave it as "Youre right and I'm wrong"

OK...that satisfy you? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

158...nice score BTW....at what organizations show did you do that #? USAC, MECA?
