ok.. so there was a dispute about what subs are louder.. i went to the shop (sound waves car audio in houghton lake, mi) and grabbed a few friends and we were going to have a meter night.. we got more than we barganed for.

about 10 of us there metered these subs:

re xxx 15 and 12

re hc 15

kicker L7 12

memphis LVS 15

dd 9915

and they were put in these enclosures:

box 1: 3.5 cubes tuned to 35 htz

box 2: 5 cubes tuned to 40 htz

box 3: 2.5 cubes tuned to 33 htz

box 4: and another 3.5 tuned to 28 htz

the kicker only did 2 of these enclosures.. the 3.5 and the 2.5 cuz we didnt want to have to make special enclosures just for this test..

this all was done on an audiocontroll mic.

we used 3 cars...

a 1999 gmc sonoma with a eclipse head, to a memphis e.q. to a crossfire bmf 1000d

a 1996 ford explorer with a eclipse head to a us amps 3800x *(not sure the model number.. mono good for about 4k watts at 1 ohm

a 2002 gmc envoy with a alpine head to a kicker 1200.1

we didnt test the xxx 12.. no need.

i was impressed by ALL the subs in the game.. and im also amazed i even fit that 5 cube box in my stupid pickup.

it was fun..

but the results.. inconclusive.. these subs are all in the same ball game.. clearly the dd and the memphis acelled in spl in ways i never even thought possible.. and i was kinda disappointed by the re hc.. but i did it just to show what a average sub does in comparison..

in my honest opinion its the most fair playing field..

boxes that all the subs would accell in, boxes that span the spectrum..

i wish there was a way to measure s.q. though.. cuz that xxx sounded good doing what it did.. even in the 5 cubes.. way better than the lvs..

but the 12 L7 still in my opinion sounded better.. much better..

of course the dd was like a **** punch in the head. absolutely amazing.
