"Brahma would be my choice,IMO they are better sounding and more durable.."
Brahmas have a recurring issue with their glue. I set my gains, and the former shot right up out of the VC. Instant slinky. Then I had to wait 6 months for a recone under warranty. Oh, then I was charged 250.00 when they finally returned my drivers (supposed to be "looking into it" but...). So granted, Adire now has a new and improved custom adhesive concoction that's supposed to solve all that. But then again, that's what the first batch was called.
The max plays low ported, but the xbl2 limits Brahma's range to about 60-63 Hz. Very sloppy above there. So if you lack a sweet pair of mids, definitely go with the max. It's more capable on into the 80-100 Hz region.
Also, ID is a proven company. In saying that, I mean they are more established and dependable. Adire was great before the expansion and multiple OEM jobs that seem to take the customer out of their service. I could call and actually reach a human. I mean Incredible
Now they won't respond to emails or calls. And they either lock or delete your post if you inquire, because "the forum is [understandably] reserved for more general queries." I don't know, but I doubt the issue exists with ID. Probably won't happen with Adire in another couple of years. But, as it stands, ID is more established.
Last, if you pound keep in mind that the ID dimples at high excursion. This causes a bit of noise, but only when you push it to its limits. I know of someone with a Tempest, Adire's supposed SPL driver (right behind the Maelstrom). Played well initially, but one tinsel lead separated from the cone and the other broke in half. Mind you, this was the replacement.
I just think Adire moved too quickly. Should probably install the phones and hire the sympathetic, friendly staff, and invest more in testing before... whatever they did first. Not bashing at all. My Brahma was the best, most accurate sub I've owned. I would just hate to see them turn into a new ED (against whom I personally have nothing). They still get blackballed for the poor design on their flat model and the poor customer service regarding it.
Personally, my replacement will likely be a Splinter, ID, or Crystal. Leaning very hard toward the RL-P for the $/performance/cust serv ratio (Mike's a great guy), but still not certain. Hope it helps.
