speakers squealing

my brother pulled the cover off of an amp to get a screw out that had fallen in, and now the speaker squeals when the amp is turned on and it turns into a light static when it is playing music. I checked the crossover, the speakers, and the wiring and I narrowed the problem down to being within the amp. any idea what happened?
