Speakers sound distorted when trunk is closed. Perfectly fine when trunk is open

I just installed my system last night.. 2 15 l7 w/2400 brutus ported 33hz.

I calibrated my gain and stuff obviously with the trunk open and the speakers sounded amazing but when i close the trunk it sounds as if the subs were "hitting" or distorting a little. My car, a.cadillac has a vapor wall aka a metal wall between the trunk and the back seat and im thinking that is what is making the noise.. Could it be that when the trunk is closed it creates pressure and the subs work harder? If not the its definetely the vapor wall thing because like i mentioned, when the trunk is open the subs sound amazing.. Btw It only does it when volume is high and certain bass notes

Thanks!
